Have to say "Olympic" (well the bass and a few of the opening textures)

I could actually see it developing into a Sabres of Paradise style 'Smokebelch' toon...

Also wondering what synth was used for the opening 'portamento' pad?

Cool stuff, but definitely a demo!

"Maybe its because ive been using CDRWs whereas State To State was just a CDR i think, and thus played" There's yer problem - you can can only play CDRWs in CDRW drives. Since your Aiwa is 4 years old, I doubt if it's of the newer breed of hi fi that can play rewritable discs. However, your newer cd...

Few listens to this track now, and the 808-isms certainly come through. Sounds like Graham produced it? The 'vibes/pizzicato' melodies are reminiscent of Don Solaris, as are the fx and samples. It's a bit over indulgent (just sounds like a jam without any structure!), but really grows and I may hunt...

Pete - I wish it had been me larging it in Castlefield...unfortunately work committments prevented me travelling up to MCR. I would have said 'alright' as well! Couple of questionz: What was the new material like, and how did the crowd react? If 808 are touring this new album, what kind of venues ar...

Try a 74 - some players are tempremental towards 80s. Also, what speed are you burning at? Try slower speeds because this has a real effect on quality and playback errors. I find 8x is the fastest before problems arise. Also, what program are you using?

Stephen - I was referring to other people who were getting personal, and suggesting we all had a right to debate 'whatever'...

Re. T-shirts.

My view is: they can look cool, but if it's just one group of lads standing to together, it could appear 'geeky', and probably doesn't help 808's image.

MEEEOW JD: fair play in speaking your mind and stating your view...but what's the point in being 'anonymous' about it? Complaining about Markus censoring a topic is somewhat hypocritical - by withholding your name you weren't exactly playing the game. Markus: maybe you can move the thread to Off Top...

90's my fave 808 album; although it's short, it seems to have an 'aura' (?) and highly electronic sound, whilst still remaining emotive in the best techno tradition. It never sounded particularly 'ravey/dancefloor' compared to the house and proto-hardcore the DJs were playing at the time, and had a ...

First off, Stephen, I didn't actually give my opinion on the Moors track - but you're right - it's cutting room floor material ...ie it didn't make it to commercial release. You're missing the point I was making about these demos - it gives an insight into what the band were 'thinking' at the time, ...

Yes indeed, King Grezza rocks! Something else cool about 808 - they are always so approachable and down to earth - as their responses in this discussion group prove. I suppose we're all part of a big 'Ski' family  Listening to 'Moors' from the sounds page provides another example of 808's lac...

I think Rodders has hit the nail on the head there, but what I would add is that I've always felt 808 should play the 'game' more. I'd say that acts such as Leftfield, Chems, Underworld, Orbital etc. are all defined by highly individual, original styles (as are 808,) but whereas they are still accep...

Got a date now - August 10th...There will be a Marquee (700 capacity) with DJs playing and 808 live around 1-2AM. Apparently there's tanks and 'radar' at this place - ring any bells? Was slightly misinformed - it's not the album launch, that's another event being organised!
