Repairing vinyl

Aloha 808ers I tried to play my 12" of "In yer face" the other day, and it bounced so badly it practically became drum 'n' bass. Or latterday Autechre. The vinyl isn't visibly scratched or dusty, but the grooves, as any of you who own that one will know, are pretty shallow. I've tried the old see-ho...

Yep, I've had many a pointless mail from Darey over the last two years. Not sure how he got my address; fortunately it's one I barely use now.

It wouldn't be so bad if I actually liked his music. Still, he can't be doing that much of it if he has time to sit around sending this crap all day.

Deliberate live

Here are some live tracks by my band, Deliberate, recorded live in London earlier this year. Suppose I should say in advance that it's nothing like 808 State, or even dance music. It's more narrative electronic pop. If you're into that sort of thing, have a listen and tell me whatcha think. http://w...

Yeah – I count only about twenty Manchester-derived tracks on this Manchester compilation. You'd think a name such as "The future sound of London" might be a bit of a this-act-is-not-from-Manchester giveaway, wouldn't you?

0101 on Tommy Boy

Hey 808ers It's a long time since I've posted anything here – glad to see you're all still alive and kicking. I just got the Tommy Boy 2xCD compilation "The Tommy Boy Story vol.1", which includes "Pacific 0101 (remix edit version)". There's weird edit at 0:33 which I don't remember being there on ot...

Sounds promising. Has anyone heard the Daft Club album of remixes? How do they compare with the originals? Any good?

Gimme shelter MC

Thanks for the live version of Gimme shelter on the site. Who is it speaking the intro/outro?

Also, where was the live ’94 Cobra Bora recorded?

Cheers, CtheB

Oh, and what's the "Control?" track mentioned above by Newbuild? Is that a demo of "Contrique"? Presumably not – wrong period?

Thanks chaps, I'll take your words for it and track it down. Disappointing that the two versions of Leo Leo are the same – maybe the discography listing of Ex:el should be amended to say "(poonchanting instrumental) [mix unlabelled]".

The art of poonchanting

It's many moons since I posted anything here, although I've kept an eye on the site. It's excellent – I'm sure that the 808 releases of the last few years would not have happened without it, so thanks to Markus and co. I also love the bits of ephemera such as the 1988 Filofax page – that's an album ...

back to yours

i'm more interested in hearing what the other visitors to this site listen to – both in terms of genres and specific artists. i'm sure it isn't all hardcore techno people in here – not that i'm knocking those who are! but i think of 808 as a (cliché ahoy) crossover band, and i suspect their audience...

Missing mixes

Wondering about "Dr Lowfruit" (4am mix) and "The fat shadow" (pointy head mix). Do "definitive" mixes of these tracks exist elsewhere?

Oldbuild

Regarding SkiFamily91's comments about Newbuild on the previous page, and Nick's repsonse to them. With the material from "Ninety" onwards, I think 808 have been equal parts a dance act and a pop one. Something like "In yer face" is a chart hit as well as a dancefloor stomper. "Newbuild" is a dance ...
