I'm editing my original reply as I realise it probably wasn't very helpful. For MP3 playing I recommend 'Winamp' or for playing and recording 'Musicmatch Jukebox'. For Real audio, well I'd use the 'Real' player. If you want to stick with the Windows media player, it's probably best, like Nick says, ...
