Very interesting interview. I'm always delighted when artist take the time out to do something like this.



Graham, you mention a local John Hurst, as an influence on what shaped you from the original Biting Tongues way of making music, to the having the aid of sequencers and synthesizers.

Was he an inspiration mearly on composing and performing live on "the electronic (Roland) bank"? Or did he as well make music similar to what eventually became the sound of Newbuild? US dance music influenced.




You also mention influences from (Ronald Shannon Jackson And) The Decoding Society, saxophonist Ornette Coleman and French band Magma.

Can you suggest perhaps one single album release from each, which is the more important and recommendable in this respect?




I'm also very interested in the Picadelly Key 103 shows of 1988 playing house music. What was the DJ('s)? You have previously mentioned Stu Allen. Was he on as early as 1988?

Anybody here, who have knowledge of any of these early 1988 shows being recorded and surviving as circulating downloads. Or who have knowledge of the show, DJ's, how it was?

Stu Allan was definitely on as early as 1988 - there's some of his mixes here.

In fact, it was Stu Allan that gave (A Guy Called) Gerald his name: this next song's "by a guy called Gerald from Hulme"!

John Hurst was from Blackpool and worked alongside Section 25.(one of the pre acid TB303 heavy records was "Looking from a Hilltop)
We called him "Gadget" as he had a lot of studio gear in the flat he shared with Phil Kirby (drummer with Biting Tongues).
Things like "powertran" digital delays,space echo ,Korg Guitar synth.And all the Roland gear like an 808 a 303 and a 101.

He worked along side Martin Hannet as his assistant engineer, and was for a time our live sound engineer where he used digital effects such as the Harmoniser
and digital delays to give BT a heavy processed sound. John would sometimes set up his Roland gear as the support act called "Yak Boy"
All Im saying is we were pretty familiar with Roland gear from about 1984 .
