"Pacific" promo video (original and 1988 versions)

Post by smiley » 03 Apr 2004 23:23

'ello folks.

apologies for the eBay post, but i need to raise some cash and so have put a rare 808 promo video up on eBay that some of you may well be interested in.

it contains the original and '98 music promos for "Pacific", and can be seen here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :B:LC:UK:1

thanks,

What's the story behind the different versions of the original
Pacific video? My memory is fading... Am I right in thinking the
version on the Uncut DVD (Great 80s Videos, or something like that,
the one narrated by Paul Morley) is different to the one on
Opti Buk?

Smiley, please check the URL. If I try to pull it up it says:
"This listing (4180315641) has been removed by eBay or is no longer available. Please make sure that you've entered the item number correctly."

Erm, the listing was back in April 2004! :)

I think I've only seen the 98 promo of Pacific once, so don't know what the differences are (but they are similar)... Didn't know that that DVD had the 98 version?

The Uncut DVD "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" narrated by Paul Morley contains the original 1989 video for Pacific - the one without the clips from Optical. I haven't seen the video for Pacific 808:98.

That is true. The image and sound quality on the SHWG DVD is better than Opti:Buk. Mind you.

The 808:98 vid is great. It has fast pace colours and images reacting with the music. And a recurring gents room sign!

Trainspotting. There is a vid for one of the original US remixes. If is an edit of the original vid with some very 80's simple rotating and mirrored kalaidoscope vector graphics.

The source of the video on SHWG is different because it doesn't have the "Pacific" caption at the beginning, whereas the video on Optibuk appears to have been from the same source as Optical. It may even have been taken from Optical. A transfer from video tape may explain the slightly lower sound quality?

It's strange that the video for 808:98 wasn't included on Optibuk if it is different from the original. :-?

It is a lot different.

And yes, I remembered wrong about the Pacific Vid on Opti:Buk. It is the Optical:90 version with the shameful caption and the Ku Club footage edited into.

I have dug it out and refreshed my memory. The video is a cook up of earlier vids. Mostly Don Solaris era. With additional graphics. As usual, but it is done in a lot better way than Cubik and Time Bomb. And in a way it is more legitimit, as it celebrates a compilaition release.

I have made a top MPEG transfer, which I'll gladly distribute. But the only method will be FTP upload. PB me with details. 92 MB.
