Q - Which country has released the most Beatles records?

Postby De Lillie » 11 Oct 2005 14:59

A - The same country which has released the most 808 State albums.

Hi all

The reason for this is that UK and US imports actually retail for cheaper in JP than domestic JP pressings. To make the JP pressings appealing to the locals, they often include lyric sheets, always a translated OBI and often some biography. Original JP CD singles were all CD3s in 'match book' sleeves. CD5s tend to be EPs or mini-albums and normally have the suffix (X tracks) in brackets after the title. That is why i would rank 'Forecast' as a mini-album compared to say 'Gorgeous'. Although you list 'Bombadin' and 'In yer face' as singles, these may actually be EPs or mini-albums. They are after all compilations of single tracks. FTR, although all discogs list 'Cubik/Olympic/Pacific' as the release a JP translation lists the title as 'Olympic (8 tracks)'. Whatever peoples opinions are, I just love those JP pressings. I only wonder why The Land Of The Rising Son opted to release a 3 track pressing of 'Oops' and not, say the equivalent of the brilliant US edition?

Cheers

Hmm. Differs if I love them. They are often cute. Cubik/Olympic/Pacific and Forecast are nice compilations of their own right. But In Yer Face/Leo Leo is not.

I always found this one insane. Why do that?

Frankie Goes To Hollywood: Liverpool
[20 Oct 1986] album (AS23)
CD: 1994 JP (ZTT/Warner; WPCR-17) [reissue; four bonus tracks]
4:53 Warriors Of The Wasteland
5:01 Rage Hard ('rage rage')
6:38 Kill The Pain
5:54 Maximum Joy
4:19 Watching The Wildlife
5:45 Lunar Bay
4:30 For Heaven's Sake
7:24 Is Anybody Out There?
7:02 Two Tribes (fluke's moulimix)
6:20 Two Tribes (teckno prisoner mix featuring adamski)
5:10 Two Tribes (intermission legend mix)
5:30 Two Tribes (intermission workout mix)

Hi

True. Totally pointless. Wrong era. Wrong mixes. Just plain wrong! I could understand a re-issue of Pleasuredome including the TT mixes, but not Liverpool. And at least 3 tracks off Liverpool were remixed for the singles market. Those could have made decent bonus tracks. Yeah sometimes WEA JP is clueless too.

BTW is there no JP equivalent release of 10x10? There are no remixes of the track on Forecast but there are a myriad of mixes spread across the UK and US editions of the CD5. Was it never issued in Japan?

Cheers

I hate the Plethora of 10 x 10 mixes, the track was totally overcooked. Glad it never made a Japanese release. Didn't know Fluke had done a Two Tribes remix any good?
