Hi all,
Went to Burnley last night to ANL party. A superb selection of dance and hip-hop acts all gave their time to play this anti-nazi league party at The Mechanics (indoor venue) in Burnley, Lancashire on a Sunday afternoon/evening.
Maximum respect to all those who played including Punjabi Hit Squad, Nicky Blackmarket, Basement Jaxx and Tim Westwood.
When Punjabi Hit Squad played I thought a little of Hit Squad MCR ie sound-system and talented young group of DJ's and rappers all going for it (plus the Hit Squad part of the name!).
They were excellent, really talented and professional. Look out for their bhangra beats in the near future (they have even done a remix for the latest Craig David single 'Rise and Fall'!)
Basement Jaxx played a top DJ set (including occasional acid house records and the Tenaglia 'Elements' edit with Robert Owens' 'I'll Be Your Friend' over the top), Nicky Blackmarket 'rinsed out' some d n'b and Tim Westwood was Tim Westwood!
According to some locals this was the first decent music there for ages. I think for some of the older crew looking at 500 nutters going off to acid house records in the Basement Jaxx set reminded them a little bit of 'back in the day' when Blackburn and Burnley used to go right off.
Peace and positive vibes!
