Yes, I am afraid it is true. Peter Hook announced it during an interview on XFM last Friday. I'm not sure as to the reasons why, though. :(

Brilliant band, brilliant tracks.

The end of an era (er... the end again, since they've split up before).

"Life goes on"... that would have made a nice title for one last N.O. farewell tune.

Yup, that's been on the cards now for a long time - the Myspace blog was the 6th time he's mentioned that New Order are no more - one of the many reasons why I went to every UK date last year - these things don't last forever...

And people wonder why I make the effort to go to all sorts of gigs - take every gig as though it could be the last - you never know what will happen in the future...

I don't think they ever split up officially before.

heck even if this is New Order's last breath they lasted better for longer than most other bands. I mean 'Get Ready' was hardly the most innovative album ever but I still really enjoy it.

A shame, another of the great bands are now no more. All good things must come to an end 'tis true.

Now official, according to the NME. What's strange though, that it's always only Hooky speaking about it, none of the other members.

Personal reasons according to Peter Hook. Can happen I suppose.
Still it's a shame, would have loved to see them again. Was aiming for 10 live gigs, now its 8 out of 10 for me.

But there is good news, because there is a new dvd coming up.
So, what's my new goal in life, now that it is 'official' ?

Peter Hook attacks his New Order bandmates
Bassist says he'll stop band continuing without him

Ex-New Order bassist Peter Hook, who left the band after New Order's Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris declared him no longer part of the set-up, has declared the band defunct.

He has threatened to sue the pair over continuing under the New Order banner.

Previously, Hook had told NME.COM that New Order wouldn't be continuing.

This prompted a statement from Sumner and Morris declaring that New Order was active, but from now Hook would not be part of the set-up.

Addressing Sumner and Morris, Hook wrote on his MySpace page: "This group [New Order] has split up! You are no more New Order than I am! You may have two thirds, but don't assume you have the rights to do anything 'New Order-ey', because you don't. I've still got a third! But I'm open to negotiation."

He signed the statement off by writing, "See you in court!"

The full statement is on Peter Hook's MySpace Blog.
