Hey-hey...!!!
This is the first set, of (hopefully) a string of sets that have the following in common:
1. Each set focusses on a particular netlabel, who's releases have appeared in virtually all CaN-mixes
2. Each netlabel (represented in each mix) is a label, whom I respect for what they do - musically, business-wise etc.
3. Each netlabel has been more than supportive regarding contributing to the CaN-series in contributing, giving feedback etc.

The first netlabel to get mixed is the German netlabel, Thinner - a label which shouldn't need any further introduction, IMO.

But for those of you who aren't in-the-know, based in Frankfurt A.M., Thinner releases electronic music in digital file formats under the Creative Commons license since 1998.

Furthermore, this label has now accumulated more than two million mp3-downloads of their catalog, to date.

Founded by Swedish Thomas Jaldemark, it's daily operations are today run by Sebastian Redenz and Ole Schulte,
supported by an international team that are geographically spread all over the globe.

From beginning to release signature dub-inspired techno/house music (which genre-wise still make their appearances/get released)
that were more-or-less trying to emulate styles/genres (eg. Basic Channel, Maurizio, Substance&Vainquer et al.).
However, over the years, Thinner has managed to evolve as a label and start releasing new sounds and/or interesting hybrids of existing ones.

One of my friends, an established DJ, artist and label-CEO, who has had the opportunity to get a sneak-preview of this mix,
probably sums up Thinner very aptly with this following comment: Music from Thinner is very class...

I couldn't agree more...

This mix (as a whole) is licensed under: the Creative Commons license 3.0 (Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works)
NOTE: If this mix is third-party distributed, the tracklist, CC-license terms, and Thinner's URL has to accompany the audio-file in some manner.

The Thinner stuff is really great, why are so many net labels completely overlooked??? I recommend www.audioaubergine.com too, their releases from Paul Blackford should appeal to fans of 808.

But I digress. Keep up the mixes Dee3! :)

Thanks for the feedback, guys!
This one's for 'Steve': regarding overlooked net-labels, I think it has something to do with the mentality of combining
"Free (legal) mp3s=S-H-I-T-E!!!" and "Creative Commons-licensed tracks=YAWN-Boring".

O.K., I'm probably biased, but the majority of Thinner's releases are up to par with - say - Basic Channel's (without carbon-copying them, mind)!

But tell you what, 'Steve' - I think you should sorta copy-and-paste your comment 'bout www.audioaubergine.com (yeah, another cool net-label BTW), and start a new thread 'bout net-labels in this section of the forum. And if you won't - I will! :D

And if anyone knows of any other (cool) net-labels out there - then post the URL's there!

The Thinner label is featured on the latest free Slices DVD (out 15 December). Recommended as always.

(GRRRRRR!!! :x )

Quick update regarding the "CaN vs. Thinner (pt. 1)"-mix, folks:
1. Apparently, I was a little bit to quick clicking the "Post"-button for my last bulletin, as I forgot to add the URL for this mix' micro-site, which is:

http://compilinganetwork.freeweb7.com/cvt1/

2. There's been some technical issues regarding the 64kbps-stream - these have now been sorted out!

So stream away...! 8)

And how do you get hold of this latest slab of fine neighborhood-noise?
Either:
Go herefor the multifunctional feedburner-feed/page (all depending on your browser)

Or update your already existing subscription (podcast/RSS)

Or just as suggested last time 'round (and still even better, actually):
Download the EPK (a PDF-file) from here - which contains all of the necessary links, you'll ever need!

Once more, you won't have to be dickin' around with copying, pasting and sending links left 'n' right to your buddies!
Just attach the PDF-file to an email, and that's all he wrote... Boo-Yah!

Enjoy - feedback always appreciated...! T.I.A.!

Oh BTW and FYI - the mix gets officially announced this coming Sunday evening,
so try and see if all of you can't keep a lid on things until then...!

Again, T.I.A.!

Many thanks for the Delsin news, even before listening I know this will be good.

Congratulations on CaN #6, another top mix Dee. I love the way you've gone back to fully instrumental (well, almost :) ) and the slightly more 'chilled' approach. Fantastic.

Well and Dee vs Thinner can't be praised enough either, keep up the great work!

Charge over to Resident Advisor NOW - and pick up one of their podcasts (in this case #088)
with Modern Love's Claro Intelecto (aka Mark Stewart) and Andy Stott at:
http://www.residentadvisor.net/podcast- ... aspx?id=88

Tracklist:
01 Mind Games
02 Find My Way
03 Bad Landing
04 Dependant
05 Dead D10
06 Momento
07 Silver Metalic Dollers
08 Rise
09 Ignorance
10 Gone to the Dogs
11 Hostile

This is almost so deep, you'll almost be needing a life-jacket"! :D

So get it before RA "archive" it...
("archive" it - that sort of has a Bladerunner-esque "retirement"-ring to it, doesn't it...?) 8)

'laters,
d.

P.S. CaN v7.0 is currently in the works - if anyone should be interested...
