Don't want to be drawn into a political debate but the differences between the two are there... nonsense to say they are the same...

Why do American leaders find it a duty to start a war within their presidency ?

Bush starts two in four years, if he wins will it be South Korea and Iran in his next term, conspiracies may answer some of these points tonight on Sky One mix.

I'd like to point out that David married an American and lives in America thus directly supporting (through taxes) the US government and the policies. So THEY thank you for your continuing support.

But besides that Kerry is more of a socialist/democrat and wants to focus on the home front while Bush I think would just stay his present course battling 'evil doers'.

But my general observation has been that not a lot of people outside the US like Bush and I was wondering if we elected a new president would that change. I think Kerry would try to pull out of Iraq as soon as possible. But I don't work for him... so not completely sure.

I just find again through observation a lot of ppl who are hostile towards the US I think mainly due to Iraq... but I think it has been brewing for a while. I find ppl think our government is arrogant. And with the deadly force our military has this leads to a lot of nervous and scared people.

One more thought for David before I exit here... are you serious or are you joking? I can't really tell if you're joking. I tend to think you are serious and I think you believe what you write... which is sad but it is your opinion. Do any others think the US is trying to achieve global dominance??

As soon as my work is done me and my American wife will leave the US because we don't like the way it is going.Nice people-amazing country but to live with the politics everyday is depressing.
People don't seem to be outraged here at all about what is happening.
If its not the communists, its the terrorists...always at war with someone.

The US has achieved global dominance and has almost all of the governments of the world in its pocket including Arab countries which creates the problems. And those governments who are not will be removed.Trying to overthrow Chavez in Venezeula was in my opinion a disgrace.Where's the democracy in that ?

China is the next big threat to the this dominance so I can foresee a war with China within the next 20 years with "protecting Taiwain" being the party line.
If the US wasn't the dominant and only superpower someone else would be and whose to say what they would be like.

As for taxes well even having a big Mac in Manchester is supporting the US-isn't it ? You can't escape.

Anyway my opinion.I don't really want to get into this on a 808 State board and I'm sure if we ever met Supra-we would have a great time together with our common love of great music.

Yeah I know David I never mean any ill will toward you... we just always seem to be the ones that have the most ummm errr 'fun' with these posts.

I like your China theory... sounds plausible... but China has too many potential customers for the US capitalists. Dead ppl don't pay.... or drive around in new automobiles.

I know capitalism sounds crazy... everyone look out for themselves.

I wonder what you mean by global dominance... is it just capitalism spreading and the 'american way of life' or do you think more like Nazi Germany... trying to eliminate specific ethnic groups... ???? Hope you don't think the latter because our nation is just basically a collection of immigrants so we can't kill everyone <laugh>

The original point I was trying to make with this post was to see how ppl are now feeling about the US and if it would change if Bush is taken out of office.... or if he stays??

Global economic and cultural dominance

Alot of people inside and outside of the US think everything will be okay once Bush is out.I don't and history shows that in foreign policy there is little between both parties.

may a homegrown american girl interject for a moment?

granted, i have my issues with the administration. but the way that people in this country took 9/11, was very personally. and as a new yorker i can tell you especially in new york. the hurt and outrage resulting from that event allowed a great amount of blindness to the way things have progressed in this country since then. in alot of ways some people are still reeling.

i will be voting for Kerry because he tends to have a marginally broader view of things. there are many people here that slam Kerry for "flip flop"ing, tho i hope that he wins this election. If he could tone down his anti Bush rhetoric for a minute it might even serve him better.

i agree with whomever said Kerry was more focused on domestic issues. he also sees the terrorist issue as one that must be addressed with increased homeland security (we are very behind compared the rest of the world, still). i agree, mainly because there are terrorists in all cultures and nations. there are even american terrorists... and i wonder what our government is doing about them. Bush was trying desperately to solve the problem in the only simplistic way he knows: target enemy, destroy. kill etc etc.

but yeah, lets hope Kerry wins. or i will be very tempted to actually use my english citizenship. anybody wanna give me a place to crash while i get settled? ^^

i highly disagree about the "eliminating ethnic groups" theory btw. our country was literally built from different immigrants. there is no master race at work here =p

Bush out!

Post by dmp »

Best (UK) coverage I've seen so far....

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uselections2004/

Also, tonight's Question Time (BBC1) is live from Miami with a panel including Mick Moore (yay!) and some guy who used to write speeches for Bush or something (boo!), plus other American political type people and the tedious drone of Dimbleby as usual.

Well he did. Reminds me of SA pre 1994. Nobody :D voted for the NP yet they won every election. Politics is fun and mindboggling. I guess they the US influence is really global. My teen son greets me as "Yo nigga", my baby daughter says X, Y, Zee (instead of Zed) and a recent Time magazine showed a suspected anti US terrorist sipping on a can of Pepsi. And well our local pop charts are 90% R&B and Rap.

Gotta love it

Yeah, I'm afraid I must confess that my country probably elected a Republican again. (I say probably because the computerized voting machines in Ohio were awfully fishy, but never mind that.) Kerry would have been a good domestic president, would've been far more palatable to the rest of the world, and his foreign policy would have been better too, (although neither Dems nor Republicans have ever been really good at foreign policy, honestly). Only trouble is, his campaign was mediocre. The press didn't give him much of a chance to establish a coherent message, but he didn't do himself any favors either. The whole flip-flop nonsense was based on his Senate record, 'cos in the Senate you have to compromise sometimes to get anything done. Oh yeah, and Kerry's campaign advertisements were wretched, mostly.
Bottom line, America isn't really a conservative nation, it's a nation of moderates who rely on entertainment companies to give them news. And they like really simple messages, and the Republican message is pretty darn simple: God, tax cuts, and fighting terror. The fact that they don't fight terror particularly well, or that their tax cuts only go to the wealthy and drive the nation into deficit, or that they're awful on every other issue, these things just don't seem to phase many Americans. Oh well. There's always 2008.
