Then on Saturday 23 April the 808 DJs are spinning in Amsterdam at the SugarFactory.

I had a top night with the 808 DJs last night, short report & photos to follow asap

This was a new night, opening at a new club. The evening kicked off with a DVD preview of 'No Maps of These Territories' on SF author William Gibson. This is the man who invented the term ‘cyberspace’. Fascinating stuff.

Next up were Sneak-Thief / Polygamy Boys Live (actually a boy and a girl). Talented Electro/ItaloDisco stuff from Berlin, very nice. At this point the club started filling up and the 808 DJs arrived in the building. The time between Sneak-Thief and the 808 State DJs was bridged with a dance act (Psychokinetics) which in my opinion could have been skipped.

Darren & Andy took over the decks at 01:00 and took their usual turns (30 mins each) for two hours. In the meantime el cerveza did flow… Our boys really got the club rocking playing their classic tunes FSOL Papua New Guinea / Are You Having Fun? / Cubik Calderone. The club was now close to capacity (ca 400). The soundsystem & smokemachine weren’t quite strong enough for Darren’s taste, but I’ve experienced worse (Aberdeen!). I thoroughly enjoyed the night and took many photos, many are a big blur, a bit like my memory. Pictures to follow!

After 808, Quazar played a rather nice live Acid set.

The posters & flyers were very clear that it was going to be a DJ set and not 808 live. The crowd seemed very happy. All in all a very well organized party. Top marks to Roy from Electronation! He mentioned the next day to me that he was considering bringing 808 live to Amsterdam, just waiting for the right occasion. Let’s hope he succeeds!

Right, here are the 808 State DJs in Amsterdam pix then. Brought them down from about 100 to 50. The gig you see after the 808DJS at the end is Quazar live & in the dressing room you see old-skool masters Quazar & Darren having a chat.
