Sampling 808 State??!!
Anybody guilty?
Does anybody know how the band feels about it?
Who do we send material to?

Having fond memories of 808's '99 gig in Los Angeles and tapping into Manc vibes is my inspiration. Personally, Ian Brown's brawl here and Laurent Garnier recent release did it to me this year.

I'm curious about the Canadian Loon sound/sampling. As used on Pacific.

Is Pacific really the record that made it famous? And the reason why it is used on several records over many years.

Graham has revealed that it origins an Akai Sample Library. So it is not discovered by 808 State (or any other) in the same way as a sampling of an obscure old record. But was Pacific the first dancefloor tune to use it.

There is a release date for Quadrastate mentioned as July 31, 1989. I know the Loon used on Cry Sisco! "Afro Dizzi Act" as well as Sueno Latino "Sueno Latino". Both released around august 1989 as well.

But I have always had the idea that Quadrastate was release in March 1989. Is July the date?

If I remember right from a previous thread, Pacific was "born" on February 6th 1989. Sueno Latino was released in the UK on September 23rd 1989 and Afro Dizzi Act on September 2nd 1989. So there is a good chance that both were written after Pacific.

Quadrastate was released at the end of July 1989...

Test pressing of Quadrastate didn't exist until Friday 26th May 1989...

And wasn't aired on "The Other Side Of Midnight" until Saturday 8th July 1989...

So, therefore, nobody would have heard it in February 1989 apart from 808 themselves (unless Andy/Daz played it out at DJ clubs)

An amazing track from 1992 that sampled Pacific was Hollywood by Code 4. It also featured Word War II era samples from Humphrey Bogart regarding supporting our troops by buying more war bonds. If anyone has this let's get it posted somewhere.
