but-does anyone know what the "SH" in SH-101 means?
(i understand the SH-1000 was the first roland instrument)

After a bit of googling, SH = Synth. After a bit more: "According to Roland founder Ikutaro Kakehashi, “‘SH’ stands for a synthesizer with control.”
