Pacific (State) Mix [not the remix but the long mix]
as i am new i'm not aware whether this has been discussed before. i did a search and i have not seen anything to suggest it has. i seek the extended or long mix of Pacific (State). i know it exists because i have not only heard it, but i actually had a copy on tape once. this was about 12 to 13 (1990ish) years ago. the tape was "borrowed," never to be seen or heard again. i've been looking for it ever since. just to give you an idea, the mix was at least 30m. it is an amazing thing to hear. the rhythm stays the same throughout the mix but the instruments keep changing playing the melody. it is utterly beautiful and extremely relaxing or erotic, depending on your activities at the time of listening. i want it back (not the tape). if this is available anywhere and anyone is aware of it please let me know. HELP!

At 30 minutes this sounds like maybe a mix someone has done during a set or something. I certainly don't know of any "original" 808 mix lasting as long as this.
I'm assuming I've heard all of the mixes (listed below) if anyone knows of any others they could maybe post something?
Pacific State - Origin (From Quadrastate and Pacific 12")
Pacific 202
Pacific 212 (From the Utd State 90 CD)
Pacific 303
Pacific 707 (Edited version of 202)
Pacific 718 (From the Utd State 90 CD)
Pacific 909 (Club Edition 12")
Pacific - Bonus Birds Beats (As above).
Pacific 98
Pacific 98 (Grooverider etc.)
I don't think any of these are up to 30 minutes long. The only one I would think it hard to get hold of now would be 909 & Bonus Birds Beats.
Sorry I can't be of any further assistance.

Sound VERY interesting. If this was a live mix from a club or a radio it would be fantastic trainspotting to recover a copy of it.
A club DJ once told me he had a 20 min. mix of Pacific (at home). But as he was refering to a vinyl record I am 100% it was a hoax, brag or maybe confusion with a similar track of the era. If such a record really excist I would have heard of it again.
BUT there is one version of Pacific that I have always wanted badly; The credit sequence on Optical 90! This is listed in discographies as Pacific 303 due to the female vocal sampling heard. But the exact sequence on the video is not found anywhere on Pacific 303. Plus there is some more samples used (speechy). This could be a result of a live mix-up made on the performance. But some of it must have been pre-recorded AND there could in any case excist a recording made on the venue. So, Dear Graham, if this excists anywhere could you help us out please.
cheers,
solarex

the mix definitely exists or did at some point, and remember this is in the late 80's/early 90's. the remixes and whatnot did not even exist at the time. this tape had been circulated among some frat cats that i knew. somebody i knew who was cool with this other guy let me copy his copy of the tape. it took up half of a 60m cassette. that 20m vinyl mix may exist. maybe that's where it came from. i don't really care what the format is. i just want a copy of this mix. it is the most amazing thing to hear...
i lost the tape in 1990, so the mix has to pre-date that. if a DJ made this mix then it was masterful. the blending was exsquisitely flawless. it did not sound at all like it was different mixes, just different instruments playing the melody. the tempo didn't even alter throughout if i recall correctly. maybe it is a studio session or something. whatever it is, i know i'm not the only one who ever heard or had it.

If it existed on vinyl, Solarex would know about it - believe me
Maybe you had a tape of a Hacienda night. Graham (Massey) & (A Guy Called) Gerald used to pop into the Hacienda after a mix session in the studio and would give the (reel?) tape to the DJ. Maybe one of those nights was taped on tape by the DJ? Can u still follow?
Definitely a question for Graham...

While on the topic.
Go here to experience the crowd cheering in the old whistle-style in response to Graeme Park dropping Pacific at the Hacienda in 1989.

someone else has to have heard this mix...
i'm going to have to dig up some of my college P.I.C.'s and see if any of them remember or know more...
this reminds of this mix tape that i still have: it's an amazing mix of classic funk, deep house and (at the time) current tracks. i have no idea who mixed it, but the blends are flawless and i dubbed it from who knows. as soon as i finish setting up my system, i'm gonna burn it to CD. i got both tapes around the same time. i probably got both from the same person...dunno.

Definitely keep searching for it - I'm sure that most of us wouldn't mind listening to it!
The longest mix that I know of is Pacific 909 (c. 10 minutes), so I'd be very interested to hear a 30 minute version.
If Graham (co-author of the song, and saxophonist) and Solarex don't know of such a version, then it's probably a DJ mix - sounds good anyway!

Nick

Regarding the Hacienda tape.
It is this one:

I love those old club and radio tapes. Don't mind the sound quality. The quality is elsewhere.
