Pacific version???
I listened to a copy of "Classic Rave" by Moonshine Music owned by a friend of mine. Track # 5 on the cd is "Pacific State 808" by 808 state...
and it's an incredible track...I've looked around in discographies trying to find the same track on single to purchase without success. I recently received "Pacific808:98.Cubik98"...hoping that the original "Pacific" would be the same song but it's not. Can anyone confirm that the original "Pacific State" is the same song or...is this just a rare cameo track on this album only? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,
Well, I don't have Classic Rave, but it is indeed listed as 'Pacific State 808' on the cover (according to http://www.moonshine.com/moonshine/cata ... tem_ID=126), and has a track length of '4:27' (according to http://www.artistdirect.com/store/artis ... 60,00.html).
I'm guessing that it's simply an edit of one of the mixes (i.e. the original Pacific State)? If so, there are two CD singles (both fairly difficult to find now) that include the original Pacific State (aka Pacific State Origin) - these are the original 3" 'Pacific' UK CD single, and the Japanese CD single of Cubik/Pacific (which combines the UK CD singles of both Cubik and Pacific onto one CD).
Pacific 98 CD 2 (ZTT98CD2) doesn't actually feature the original mix, despite the tracklisting stating otherwise - it's a mispress. It actually features 'Pacific 303' twice!
The only other explanation for the Classic Rave track is that it *might* be 'Pacific b' as featured on the 7" and Cassette Single of Pacific, as the tracktimes are the same - in which case it would be exclusive to CD on this compilation!
References, btw, are http://www.808state.com/discogs/808disco.txt and http://www.808state.com/discogs/808page ... npacif.htm.

Nick

This one is always very handy too:

Ah, the ZTT discog - very useful!
BTW, there's a soundclip of the track here http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... 02-8945203
It does sound very much like 'Pacific b', but not sure after a 30 second sample - Markus?

hmmmm...
thanks for all the great help guys...so to confirm...it isn't the same track as the original "pacific state" on the cd single? reason being as i have access to one but it's damn expensive...so i'd rather avoid the frustration that would ensue after shelling out for it and not being what i expected. Is "pacific state" the same as "pacific" of the cubik:98 singles?
Re: hmmmm...
From what we can gather, no it isn't the same mix as the original song, 'Pacific State'. It's the same song, but a different mix/edit.coho wrote:thanks for all the great help guys...so to confirm...it isn't the same track as the original "pacific state" on the cd single? reason being as i have access to one but it's damn expensive...so i'd rather avoid the frustration that would ensue after shelling out for it and not being what i expected. Pacific State is the original name for the song (as appeared on the Quadrastate album and the single which was released in 1989). Pacific, however, is the name of the same song but in different mixes - there are countless number of mixes of the same song available, believe me!
So, it depends on what you are after... If you're after the same song but different mixes, go for any of the Pacific CD singles on offer. There are elements of 'Pacific b' in 'Pacific 202', for instance. Pacific 98 is an updated version of it, released in 1998!
Hope this helps,
Nick
