Pacific Chord

Post by TripleDouble »

Hi - new to the site but not to 808 State.
I hope somebody can help me here.
What is making the chord sound in Pacific State?
(A lovely deep sound, it starts at the beggining under the chirps.)
Somebody told me it was made by a Juno 106 but I have some samples and they doesnt sound the same...
More than one chord being played possibly? Some wicked sound manipualtion going on as well perhaps?
Basically, how exactly was this sound created...
Thanks!

yes its a sound we made up on the juno 106 ,then sampled into a casio fz1 sampler ,then played from there.
the melody is played on a soprano saxaphone (the small straight one) that people always confuse with a clarinet. the bird is a canadian loon.
the bass is a roland 101(theres effectively two bass lines the main one and the one in the kalimba section) ,the topline is also a 101, it has the casio kalimba card played from the internal sequencer of the 909,the drums are a combination of roland tr 909 and tr 727(bongoes etc)..theres a hi string line off a roland d50 ,there are 5 edits in the piece and it was recorded from 16 track 1 inch tape through a TAC scorpian desk to 1/4 inch analogue tape and then edited, the soprano saxaphone was a trafford (ill get back to you with the serial number ) and I used a number 2 rico royal reed..

Excellent!
Top info Graham.
Any chance of emailing me some samples?
No worries if not - its not like Im going to use them in some world beating chart stormer money magnet.
Just going to tinkle around in Reason making some passable electro for my ears only.
tried to remix/rip off Cobra Bora a few months ago - found it insanely difficult to copy by ear those two wicked melody riffs - just about managed the 303 one though. Well, my mate did.
Excellent excellent track, as is all of 90 - (the soundtrack to my yoof.)
Last question - having read a few threads here, is there a chance you will be releasing some old stuff?
I love The Extended Pleasure Of Dance but (I think) it was only available on vinyl. And my copy's f**ked.
Any chance of a re-release?
Cheers!
