Wheres the Time Bomb

Post by N.JOHNSON »

Something that puzzled me for a long time now and was reminded of it again after looking through my 808 collection.

Its probably been mentioned before but i have not heard about it. Can anyone tell me why Time Bomb was not on the 808:88:98 best of singles album.

All the tracks on there were singles and that was missing. Why? Seems strange as it was a nice pounding track similar in style to In Yer Face.

I just thought it was odd not to have it on there.

Nick.

because its a cursed track,,(well not really but it is)
We dont rea;lly like the mix on it ,its a bit flat , and it wasnt a hit .Id love to remix it
as i do like the riffs.. I remember radio one would nt play it because during the 1st gulf war you could nt say bomb on radio one, nor attack (remember massive attack had to change their name) seems daft when
they had cameras on cruise missiles on tv.
repa repo was the track off that that got played at the hacienda ,and wierdly when we were promoting the single on local tv we performed Nimbus instead)
we did cockTimebomb up in turin, Danny evans(sound engineer) did record Turin
but havent got the cd off him yet.

I really like the track - there's two different versions - the Fon mix and the promo-only 12" mix. I've always thought it could do with being a bit longer, though? :)

Timebomb sounds a bit more cheesier than I'm used to from 808. Nimbus is so much better its frightening. Even if it had had some Radio 1 play I think it would have struggled to do well.

I've always liked Timebomb. Even though it's one of the more straight-forward 808 tune it's still good fun. I remember going to see "808 State" dj at the Fish Club (I think it was called) in Dallas to promote its release.

I recall walking to the club and stepping into what I thought was a little puddle of water in the street. It turned out to be a pothole about 6 inches deep and full of some really foul liquid. So I got to spend the rest of the night dancing about with my one foot looking like it had a severe case of gangrene.

Like Rodders, I thought the promo version was quite good and better than the mix on Gorgeous.

I remember hearing an early version of Colony which was also miles better than the final Gorgeous mix.

I know it was a difficult time for 808 around that time, maybe they just took there minds off the problems by tinkering with the tracks.
