compilation of remixes?

Here's my list. Took me quite a while. I'm sort of imagining a CD compilation in the vein of the Aphex Twin's "26 mixes for cash". I've tried to combine my fave's with tracks that have never been released on CD before.
Top 10 808 mixes:
Afrika Bambaataa & The Soulsonic Force: Don’t Stop Planet Rock (Planet Rock 2000 mix). Tommy Boy / ZTT.
Art Of Noise: Moments in Love (808 mix) [unreleased…]. ZTT. This one shouldn't a problem for Ian Peel to sort out
Tom Jones: I Can't Turn Around (Love Can't) [808 mix]. MCA / Interscope / ZTT.
Mohamed: Ham Safar (808 State Edit) Don't know if this one counts as a 'remix'. Dance Factory / Rough Trade.
Electronic: Disappointed (808 State 12 inch remix). Parlophone / Warners / Factory.
Pizzicato Five: Trailer Music (808 State mix). Matador.
REM: King Of Comedy (808 State Instrumental mix). WEA / ZTT. This version not previously released on CD.
Santa Cruz: Heaven Only Knows (The Ghost Of Ivy's Lips 808 Mix). MCA / WEA.
Soundgarden: Black Hole Sun (808 mix) [unreleased…]
TC’95: Just Get Up And Dance (808 State remix). Planet Four. Not previously released on CD.
YMO: Light In Darkness (808 State remix). Alfa / Internal.
YES: Owner Of A Lonely Heart (808 State 2 Close to the Edge Mix). WEA / East West.
Top 10 Massey mixes:
A Certain Ratio: Flight (Massey Mix). Creation.
Blue Pearl: Naked In The Rain (Massey’s 808 Jazz Mix). Big Life. This version not previously released on CD.
Finitribe: 101 (303-3D Bass Version by Graham Massey). One Little Indian.
Goldfrapp: Human (Massey's Neanderthal Mix). Mute. This version not previously released on CD.
Gong: Isle Of Everywhere (Graham Massey Mix). Gliss.
The Future Sound Of London: Papua New Guinea (Massey Mix). Jumpin'and Pumpin'.
Haruomi Hosono: Medicine Mix (Quiet Lodge Version by Massey). Sony / Tristar. Rare version.
Lynda Law: I Don’t Want Your Love (The Massey Mix). Perfecto / Wau! Mr Modo. Not previously released on CD.
Shamen: Human NRG (Massey Mix). One Little Indian.
Shimmer: Take Arms (Graham Massey Salty Dog mix). Shimmersound. This version not previously released on CD.
Suns Of Arqa: Govinda’s Dream (Graham Massey’s 808 mix). Arqasound.
Oh and Bjork & Rolf Harris should feature too with unreleased mixes

Yes, this would be fantastic - the mix does exist (it's mentioned on a Soundgarden fan site), but hasn't been released yet...markus wrote:Soundgarden: Black Hole Sun (808 mix) [unreleased…]
Ah, the infamous "Remix Sampler" cassette (mentioned in a recent Record Collector article on ZTT). How many of these were produced, and what else was on this? Ian?markus wrote: Art Of Noise: Moments in Love (808 mix) [unreleased…]. ZTT. This one shouldn't a problem for Ian Peel to sort out
A Rolf Harris mix *has* to be included - unreleased or not. That mix has been raved about by other mates of mine (non-808 hardcore fans), so leaving it off would be a travesty!

If 808 did a remix compilation - who would the album be aimed at, Fans or the general public?
Most of us fans have the majority of the remixes - and there is a risk of us voting for the hard ones to track down which are not necessarily 808s best ones. I think an album with 808s best remixes would be great with a couple tracks of unreleased material for the fans. Like the 2 tracks that were included in 808.88-98 (crash/pacific98/cubic98Jp) which kept the fans happy even though we have multiple copies of the rest of the tracks!
As long as the material included is quality, as there will be so many remixes that would have to be left out of the album that are worthy. I to would like to hear Black hole sun, busy child (even if its only half a minute!), sub sub-coast etc... but if you want to sale the cd keep the content quality not rarity. From a personal point of view I could make a list for the cd of the tracks I havent got yet! A fan cd of remixes would be fantastic!! - but very unlikely.
Like Markus says it would be great to have such a release like the 26 remixes for cash, 808 on one cd massey mixes on the other. If it was done well there is a chance it could help bring in a wider audience.
808 has a very diverse sound which seems to result in fans of different musical tastes (ie influences of house/drum and base/techno/indi etc etc). This results in us having different ideas of what are the best tracks. It would be good if more people could write in with thier top ten remixes to give some sort of indication. Although this is only a theoretical album - it is possible and has been done by others - so why not 808!!
In addition to my Massey list need to somehow cram in Gold-lamb, and Army of me as suggested (dont know which version to have though). There are too many good ones to fit onto 2 cds!

remixes ala the BELOVED
Consider what THE BELOVED (Jon Marsh) has done with his music. MOST if not ALL of remixes done for other bands are up on http://www.thebeloved.com and saved as REAL PLAYER files in the music section. You will notice downloadable (downloadible) music in the, ahem, download section....most of which are rarities
I think there's got to be a mass market for Massey's mixes (sorry).
Personally, the FSOL, Electronic, David Bowie, YMO, A Certain Ratio and Intastella (Drifter) mixes are my favourites.
People would be blown away by the Intastella one... it sounds like Led Zep.
Remixes seem to have been the bands forte since ex:el, etc.

Ahhh please se my other post Is This PossibleMark wrote:I've managed to collect most 808/Massey remixes (still awaiting a few - with help from the very kind Mr King) and I have made 5 CD's of 808 remixes. The only way to get them altogether is MP3. I don't think that a compilation will ever see the light. A best of....remixes would be nice, but then again everyone's tastes will be totally different.
It'll never happen, luckily there are those of us who can compile our own.
A dream would be for someone to make these compilations and sell them through this site, via a members club or subscription ?? Like others, I want a complete 808 State / Massey and band members collection... on CD.

Unless this is taken on by a major label or label with major, major budget a "complete" compilation (5xCD box set?!) is a non-starter. What is possible is a single (or possibly double) CD compilation - a/k/a 'Volume 1' - and following up with more Volumes afterwards.
As I said I'm keen for Karvavena Records to do this and have put some suggestions (covering varuious areas - budget, content, etc.) to Graham, which he's currently mulling over.
While he mulls I'm making tentative approahces to a few of the copyright holders (including ZTT) to see how the land lies...

Great... that is a start. One bit of information that would be cool is:
How many copies of the recent 808 State New Order 12"s are selling.... I know the little fan clan we have here is not massive, but there must be loads of other bods that want this stuff.
I know my post (reading back on it) was a litle pointless.... I knew that there could be many legal problems.
Lets see eh?
Thank You for your reply.
