"We are shocked and saddened to hear of the news that has reached us in recent hours following the disastrous earthquakes in Albania.
Our first line-up announcement was scheduled for today but needless to say, this is much more important than our event. Instead we would like to take this opportunity to raise awareness about the situation in Albania.
An area near Tirana in the north-west of the country was hit by a 6.4 earthquake in the early hours of Tuesday morning, followed by a number of aftershocks, including one of 5.3 magnitude. Emergency services are working tirelessly on the several cities affected by the earthquake. There have been several casualties and hundreds of injuries reported on but our friends in Tirana are telling us that the situation is more severe.
A local foundation has set up this campaign to provide food, water, and shelter to Albanians suffering as a result of the catastrophic earthquake. Please help us raise funds towards disaster relief. We will be combining all our charitable efforts for this year's festival towards disaster relief in the area. Donate what you can and help Albania recover from this devastating earthquake.

"Dear Kala family, it is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that Kala won’t be able to take place in 2020.

We have been monitoring the developments of the global situation closely, and after careful consideration, we have come to the conclusion that we won’t be able to run a safe and enjoyable event for our guests, staff, and Dhërmi residents this year.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kala is meant to be a celebration and an opportunity to dance and relax in paradise for a few days and switch off from the world to be able to return to our lives with renewed energy. While we believe this is more needed than ever and have done all we could to make it happen, the reality is that Coronavirus is still a serious health threat and that we haven’t made enough progress in our collective battle against it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We need to support frontline healthcare workers and organisations around the world fighting the outbreak, and avoid contributing to the spread of the virus so we can keep making progress in the right direction.

Albania is in a relatively good situation but there is still a lot of uncertainty about how things are going to develop between now and September, and we believe it is not responsible to go ahead in this situation.

It's absolutely heart-breaking to realise that we are going to miss our little slice of paradise this summer but we are confident it will be worth the wait, and that next year we will be able to enjoy the truly magical week in the Albanian Riviera we were looking forward to.

Kala will take place 9th to 16th of June 2021. As promised, ticket holders have two options:

"Postponement to June 2022
Dear Kala family,
It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that Kala won’t be able to take place in 2021.
We have explored all the possible routes to make our long-awaited Dhërmi reunion happen. Unfortunately the current travel restrictions and the unpredictability we are going to face in the coming weeks have forced us to make the difficult decision to postpone Kala once again.
When we decided to move the Kala from June to September, we had hoped that the rollout of the vaccination plans throughout Europe would have helped ease the travel restrictions by now. Unfortunately, despite Albania currently reporting significantly low infections and having no entry restriction in place, most EU countries still advise against traveling there or require PCR tests and self-isolation on the way back.
Organising an overseas festival experience like Kala takes several months of intense preparation and we are now at a point where we cannot wait any longer. Even if Albania was moved to the travel green list, the regulations could change at any minute, making it impossible for us to operate the event with the confidence we are going to be able to deliver the kind of experience we all want.
Facing this reality and with cases still going up in parts of Europe and the UK, we feel that postponing the event is in the best interest of all the people involved.
After all the work our team has done during the past year and a half trying to make this happen for all of us, it is absolutely heartbreaking to realise that we are not going to be able to enjoy a much needed week of dancing and sunbathing in our little slice of paradise in the Riviera this summer. We were really really looking forward to reuniting and celebrating life with all of you in Dhërmi but rest assured, we are determined to make our next edition a truly outstanding experience that will be well worth the wait.
