Post by red »

I've just joined, i didnt even know there was an official 808state site until today which prob means i'm thick......have been a fan for a while although its more of the early stuff i'm into, i dont think anythings topped '90' to be honest and cobra bora is one of my all time favourite tracks (from any band). I think it has to be the best acid track thats ever been made really and wouldnt know how long the programming took for it...... does anyone have any suggestions for similar listening?

Welcome to the forum, red.

When you say that it's the early stuff you're in to - do you mean you don't like recent releases or have you just not heard anything since Ex:El?

I love Cobra Bora as well. The only recent track that has come close to it in my affections has been Invader.

Hi Pob and Marcus

The last 808state album i bought was actually Prebuild a couple of weeks ago, i quite like some of it although its a bit hit and miss, i've got a lot of respect for them in the way they were pushing the boundaries of acid music back in those days as a lot of acid house was pretty crap at the time as i remember... the last album i bought before that was 'gorgeous' which is going back a few years but apart from the odd track here and there i found that the edge had gone a bit for me, i've heard the odd track off later albums and keep meaning to give 'don solaris' a whirl but i never seem to find a shop thats got a copy, Newbuild had some interesting acid experimental stuff happening but i think everything just came together with '90'....a friend who knew i was into alternative and electronic stuff asked me if i'd heard of 808state and at the time i didnt know who they were, so he just fast forwarded onto cobra bora and i was just blown away thinking 'what the hell is this??' it was brilliant and i like the whole album as it just all seems to gel, Ex El was a pretty good follow up and there's definitely some tracks on it that i like as well but the quality just seemed to diminish to me in their later stuff, then again there's quite a lot i haven't heard including 'invader' which i'd like to check out, which album is this on? Hopefully there's still a lot of their stuff to like!

Hi red

Welcome.

Cobra Bora kickstarted my 808 addiction. You've got to check out Don Solaris though, my personal 808 fave.

Invader can't be found on any album, but the single is well worth tracking down and shouldn't be too difficult to find.

Incredible how Don Solaris remains a masterpiece, even after 100+ auditions, to me and everyone. Welcome Ned
