International Butterfly Day for World Peace

Post by Dr.Walsh »

Hi all,

Thought everyone would be interested in this:

I am co-organiser of an event called 'The Butterfly Effect': annual International Butterfly Day for World Peace. :)

Please check out the web-site: www.butterfly-effect.info

We had our first one yesterday at a nature reserve in Greater Manchester. There was a butterfly walk, a stall with butterfly and peace literature, a solstice dance in the evening with 100+ people and we raised money for butterfly conservation. :)

In the afternoon we made butterfly wings for the dance. :)

All in all it was a really beautiful day - a report is going on the web-site soon.

Andy and Darren were going to come along but were in Singapore, but the 808 'tribe' was represented by Andys' wife, Mandy and nippers. :)

Part of the inspiration for the day was a 'Save The Butterfly' post on www.808state.com so thanks to whoever put that one on. :)

This is an event that I am now going to market and promote internationally. :)

If anyone would like to take part next year please have a look at the web-site for more details.

Peace, butterflies and positive vibes, :)

'Dr.' Walsh :)

You chose a cool date - midsummer night, but also 7 years on the day since 808 State Don Solaris release party at Castlefield just days after the Bomb.

Sounds like a great idea... we have an awesome Butterfly garden here at the Detroit Zoo... have you thought about contacting zoos to help spread world peace?... they would be an ideal place to hold events and reach mass people.

Hi Supraset,

Thanks for the idea - I shall follow it up.

I see you're from Detroit - I have never been but many people have called Detroit and Manchester spiritual brothers and sisters (I know everyone is spiritual brothers and sisters but you know what I mean!)

Do you go to the Detroit Techno Festival and do you get to see the Underground Resistance DJ's play much? Or do they keep a low profile?

Recently, I have seen DJ Rolando and Derrick May DJing in Manchester. They were amazing and Derrick May especially seemed like a really nice geeza. Apparently one time he was dancing on the dancefloor and forgot about playing records and the promoter had to remind him to go back to the DJ booth! :)

I gave DJ Rolando a t-shirt with United States Of Peace on the front! :)

Big love to the Detroit massive! :)

Ahhh yes I've been to the festival formerly known as DEMF (it has switched promoters and thus names) several times.

It was amazing to see and walk within the massive sea of people. Each year they have had more than a million visiters over three days... so each day approx 333,333 ppl were there and man it's just crazy. They have about four to five different stages with a lot of local and some international talent. I would love to see 808 come next year. I have seen all the local talent here at some time or another.

I'd love to visit Manchester at some time... most of my fav bands are from there, 808, New Order/Joy Division, The Smiths/Morrissey. How does such great talent come from such a small pool? Amazing!!

Detroit is a cool place.

I just walked around in awe throughout the whole weekend.
I don't know- how much Detroit people know how important Detroit has been to all of us.
I love the people mover too.

I have seen May,Rolando and Juan Atkins play many times around the world.
I have also chilled out with Atkins-what a great guy.
Still love 'The Flow'.
I love Martin Price's description of the first time he heard 'No UFO's' in a club.
He ran up to DJ booth knocking over tables to find out what the tune was called.
I think we have all felt that at some stage.

I can also recommend AUX88's album of remixes called 'Electro Boogie' featuring many wonderful
tunes such as DJ Assault's 'Shake it' and many Kraftwerkian references.
Manchester is a sister city and I think the economies of both cities have created this artist backlash.Liverpool and Chicago is similar too.
