Is This Possible ?

Post by Tasco »

Hi all,

Being a massive fan of 808 State, I am thrilled to be a member here. I am also very grateful for all the help I have had here regarding 808 State CDs and remixes.

Now the problem I have is the fact that I no longer have a Record player. I could buy one…. But I am more interested in CDs, then transferring them to my PC and then my Ipod.

So… on to my point:

Do you think there is a way of us all making some money for the site and for the guys in 808 State, via a private members section or subscription…. Or even an 808state.com fan club? In return we could have exclusive CDs of hard to get mixes etc? I am not shy of spending my money on 808 State stuff. But I simply can’t find a lot of mixes, or they are on vinyl or deleted. Even the new released New Order mixes are only available on vinyl. Someone must have the masters of all of this stuff, and make some CDs, with the band in mind for royalties etc ?

I know that there are a load of legal things to consider, but I feel there are a lot of fans out there crying out for this stuff. Granted I could download loads of it via p2p software, but I would rather have some sort of official collection.

I am more than happy to help the site and the band in anyway.

So what do you think…. Please don’t flame me. I am just a desperate fan trying to collect 808 State Cds.

Hi.

We've been there and done that, got a state to state CD to show for it. I don't think its feasable mate, its a great idea, but there aren't enough of us to fund a CD production or fan club I would suspect? Have you checked the sounds section? there are loads of tracks courtesy of Markus and Graham that are free to download. And I suppose this website is the closest thing to a fan club (at least we don't have to pay!!!)

You'll just have to keep shelling out!

Thought so.... oh well.

I don't mind shelling out.... it is just so hard to find some of this stuff. A lot is on vinyl. Even the new 12" releases are no good to me :(

Thanks

As a CDJ with absolutely tons of CD's since giving up vinyl and my technics years ago. I hate having to buy vinyl nowadays, but a quick lend of a deck and a moment in iTunes et voila, the offending piece of vinyl can now be banished to the record box lurking under the stairs.

O.K mate... then I will have to go for it. I know I have a pile of 808 State vinyl somewhere.

I have Itunes for Windows... SO, what is the best method to transfer Vinyl to Itunes ? I take it I am gonna need a pre-amp for the record deck ? Then I plug the deck into the "mic" bit in my sound card ?

Any help would be cool.... thanx.

Probably a bit much to say it is a simple process using only iTunes but with a bit of practice its like second nature...

First it depends on what type of deck you can get hold of; a proper DJ deck will need a proper pre-amp section (I use one of the DJ mixers that I use for CDJing), where as some of the accessory decks that come with modern stereos give a line-level output to begin with.

Attach the output from you deck to the line in on your sound card, start your audio editor of choice (Soundforge, Peak, Quicktime Pro, Audacity etc.) click record on a new file and play the vinyl. Once recorded top and tail the recording and save. Open this file in iTunes, highlight it, and choose to convert to mp3.

And there you have it, your vinyl in mp3. If however your vinyl isn't in the best of condition (and of course we all clean our vinyl with a proper vinyl spray and soft lint free cloth don't we...), you may want to use something like Steinberg's Clean to remove clicks and static.
