It's All Gone Pete Tong

Post by nickking »

A bit more about the soundtrack and proposed release date here - an interview with Lol Hammond on The Big Chill site.

"Who's on the soundtrack?

The soundtrack will be a double CD.
One CD will feature the more eclectic artists featured in the movie including The Beach Boys, The Penguin Café Orchestra (a personal fave), The Beta Band, and Graham Massey from 808 States original score. The other C.D will focus more on the club-orientated tracks. We have tracks from Deep Dish, The Shape Shifters, and Pete Tong himself.
Paul Kaye supplies lead vocals on the double funk track 'Can You Hear Me Now?' which will be the third single released from the movie. The soundtrack will be released to co-incide with the release of the movie in late May 2005 on Positiva / EMI Records.

Promo CD's are floating around now.
And I think this is the press release:
2005 looks set to be a vintage year for dance music. As its renaissance continues apace, out in front as ever is Positiva Records. No other British label has contributed so much to the genre’s crossover success, having had more No.1’s than any other dance entity since records began. So, when it came to a film with dance culture as its backdrop, who better to assemble the soundtrack than the UK’s greatest dance label?

The film in question is ‘It’s All Gone Pete Tong’. No, not a biopic of Radio 1’s dance maestro - it merely uses the slang phrase now contained in the Oxford English Dictionary. Instead, ‘It’s All Gone…’ follows the uppers, downers, and sideways exploits of infamous DJ and clubland demi-god, Frankie Wilde ( aka Paul Kaye). The ‘mockumentary’ follows a period in Frankie Wilde’s exceptional life, as he deals with the highs and lows of his superstar DJ career which is cut short by his profound deafness.

Wilde’s rise and fall and rise again are the basis of the film. As we follow his Damascian rebirth, we’re treated to plenty of well-known cameos from across clubland – including Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Pete Tong and Carl Cox plus many more. And more importantly, not only does the film feature some of the biggest and brightest dance tracks to have hit the dancefloor in recent years, it also includes tracks and remixes from across the musical spectrum, that truly reflect this rollercoaster ride of a film.

The double album, compiled by James Doman and Positiva’s Ben Cherrill, brings together the film’s musical highlights across 2 CDs. The first highlights the more melancholic moments from the film, and opens with an exclusive Graham Massey remix of the seminal ‘Pacific State’ by 808 State, it then takes you on a serene journey through tracks such as the classic 1930’s love song ‘Parlez Moi D’Amour’ by Lucienne Boyer, the Beta Band’s ‘Troubles’, and Goldfrapp’s awesome remake of Depeche Mode’s ‘Halo’ before finishing up with the Beach Boys’ ‘Good Vibrations’ and Barefoot’s unique new version of ‘White Lines’.

CD 2 moves things up a gear, with an outstanding selection of Frankie Wilde’s clubbing highlights that includes anthems such as Deep Dish’s ‘Flashdance’, Shapeshifters’ awesome new single ‘Back To Basics’, Ferry Corsten’s ‘Rock Your Body Rock’ alongside the exclusive Doublefunk feat. Frankie Wilde ‘Can You Hear Me Now’, plus Reflekt’s ‘Need To Feel Loved’, and Orbital’s festival fave ‘Frenetic’.

Yup, I believe that the promo copy I'm due to get shortly is of the previous tracklisting (i.e. the one mentioned in the Big Chill article), which will be good, as that means I'll be looking forward to the released one as well! :D

According to the advert that's in the current issue of Mixmag (has an excellent DVD featuring clips of the film - love the doctor's interview - "Do you do drugs?" :D :D ), the release date for the soundtrack is 23rd May.

Gotta see this film:

"Do you practice safe sex? I'm faithful... Apart from some blowjobs.... And a couple of shags!" :P
