The art of poonchanting

Post by Chris the Boy »

It's many moons since I posted anything here, although I've kept an eye on the site. It's excellent – I'm sure that the 808 releases of the last few years would not have happened without it, so thanks to Markus and co. I also love the bits of ephemera such as the 1988 Filofax page – that's an album cover on its own!

Question for you: I've been hunting down old 808 12"s lately; the remix of In yer face is still absent from my collection. I'd like some opinions – is the "facially yours" mix worth looking for? Is it much different from the standard 12" mix? Also, is the "poonchanting instrumental" of Leo Leo the same as the Ex:el cut? They seem to have the same track time.

Hope you're all well,

'Facially Yours' is one of my fave 808 mixes, a complete reworking from the 12" which is just an extension of the 7" mix, well worth tracking down.

The Poonchanting mix is the same as the one found on Ex:el.

Facially Yours is an absolutely essential version!

You can hear the end of it in the background of an interview scene in the GMEX footage on Optibuk. Someone once asked which version it was, but I can't find the topic anymore.

Thanks chaps, I'll take your words for it and track it down. Disappointing that the two versions of Leo Leo are the same – maybe the discography listing of Ex:el should be amended to say "(poonchanting instrumental) [mix unlabelled]".
