Just wondered what acetates people had and what are classed as the rarities.

Ive got Cobra Bora on 7", I believe only 7 were pressed.

Hi All

According to my sources only 5 copies were pressed of the Cobra Bora acetate. Josh Bortz bought his copy around 1996 after I saw it listed at Esprit (now eil.com) All vinyl acetates are rare because:
1) They deteriorate in quality after playing
2) Often they are unmixed or unmastered editions
3) They were always touched by the hand of the artists
4) Always limited copies

Rarest acetate ever? The Quarrymen 'In spite of all the danger/That'll be the day' 1958 10" handwritten label. Features John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison. Owner? The only living member of the mentioned trio. Value? GBP 70 000 maybe. Why? 3 of the Fab 4 on one disc a full 6 years before BeatleMania.

CD 'acetates' are less rare as they are often only CDRs. No deterioration in sound and anyone can make an exact copy. Rarest 808 State acetate? SteveC you own it. Rarest album? JMJs 'Music for Supermarkets'

Hi Nick

Is that the one with the remix? That's rather rare as it was never issued as a single. I'd love to own the remix which I've seen listed as a two track CD5. Josh Bortz posted me a copy in 1998, but I never received it :( . I really believe there are 808 State fans in the Postal Services
Cheers

You can buy the 2-track promo at Esprit here, which I've got.

The promo CDR, which I've also got, is a little bit more rare:
