Religious Moments

Post by Twocer »

Hi,

A group of us went to a rave in Manchester G-Mex in about 1991. It was bloody fantastic but I don't remember much about it (can't imagine why). Started with Cubik, one of the Staters had 1/2 a mirror ball and was shining it into a big green laser - all good family fun. I think N-Joi were supporting.

Please can anyone tell me anymore about this event? Does anyone by any chance have a recording I can buy?

Ta,
Twocer.

Im sure Markus/Pete etc will fill you in with more details. As for the recording, highlights can be found on the 808 Optibuk DVD. HMV may stock it. Theres also an Optibuk page on this site, if you scroll through last years news archive you should see a link.

Pete may be able to tell you if there's a live tape of it, but yup, N-Joi were supporting, and MC-Tunes and Bjork were there too.

It was in '91 (16th March 1991!) called the 'G-Mex Turbo Rave'- here's a link to the t-shirts page fromt that gig http://www.808state.com/image808/memora ... rbo_xl.htm

There's a couple of clips on the Optibuk DVD (one with Markus in the audience for a brief second!), although not many, and some interviews from the day.

It's strange that a number of us were actually there that day, but never knew each other then (me, Markus, Pete, Rodders)!

Damn good gig, which also got me into N-Joi as well.

l8rs,

Nick ;)

Yes, the Optibuk DVD is essential viewing to recall the memories. Quite a few interviews with (very young) ravers at the gig too, maybe you'll see yourself...

All,

Thanks for the tip. Optibuk has just arived from Play.com (another good tip!) and Jesus, what a lump in the throat - the only bad thing is there's not enough footage. I remember travelling up from Milton Keynes in my mate's old Triumph Herald - parked it under the G-Mex and started queueing - people were trying to flog whistles and shouting "come on all you revellers!"

You might alredy know about this but there's a cd single, "N-Joi Live in Manchester", which is around 1/2 hour long and will get your old cheesy quaver juices going, I'm sure. Buy it if you can and keep the faith etc etc.

Cheers!
