808 State to feature on a Dr Who album?

Post by nickking »

Well, according to the BBC website at http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho/cd/ ... 7563.shtml, they are!

"Details of a special remix album.

As part of the 40th Anniversary celebrations, BBC Music has commissioned a series of remixes, modern interpretations and re-workings of Radiophonic Workshop material and classic Doctor Who music.

Artists, which include Lemon Jelly, The Orb, Radioslave, 808state, Unkle, Howie B, Coldcut, Mark B and St Etienne were all given access to parts of the extensive archive of material which help shape the sound of modern dance music. The results are a unique insight into how artists of today were influenced by this groundbreaking music of the past.

The album, Resistance is Futile is out at the start of 2004, and all attendees to Panopticon 2003 will receive a free limited edition 3 track promo sampler. Numbers are limited so make sure you don't miss out.

Look out for some exclusive preview sound files on the site soon. "

Panopticon is apparently the annual Dr Who convention - more info here - http://www.dominitemporal.co.uk/panopticon/p2003.htm - not sure which tracks are going to be on the 3-track promo sampler, but aim to find out (and no, I'm *not* going)! :D

Hi Everbody!, Hi Dr Nick! WHO?

I'm amazed yet again, just how the hell do you do it! I think if any search came up with 808 and Dr Who, I would have to quickly close my browser and go have a beer to calm down.

I think for the sake of the Discussion Forum and the Globalstate Posse that You're going to have to bite the bullet and mix with some Dr Who fans to get the low down here.

After all, it can't be any worse than getting called a Trekkie now can it.

I have a mate who's a big Dr Who fan, so i think he'll have to be brought in for questioning.

Yeah, a mate of mine is a big Dr Who fan who *might* be going to this convention...

Not really my cup of tea - I mean, I'll watch the programmes if they're on telly, but going to a convention... :-? And for, what, fifty quid a day!! :-?

So, yeah, question those Dr Who fans at will - I'm just interested in the music!!

I found out about the CD in the Lemon Jelly forum! :D

Suspended indefinitely... :(

"The BBC have now removed this title from the 2004 schedule with no new date
assured. This is due to copyright issues regarding the theme tune and the
new Doctor Who TV series. "

Copyright issues? It's a BBC CD, for christsake!

Nick :x
