Press Release:

"SLUT SMALLS is the diminutive relative of SLUT TRAX.

Over the next twelve months SLUT SMALLS will be releasing twelve split 7" from people that we like. All the tracks are exclusive and made especially for us.

After it's twelve releases the label will cease to exist.

We have not accepted out-takes insisting that people go into the studio specifically with the 7" format in mind. Everyone on the label has risen to the challenge. Those that didn't got dropped like stones.

Their names will appear in the run-off grooves as a Hall of Shame...

The second one, the one you now have in your beautifully manicured hands, features 808 STATE and
JEGA.

The release date is January 1999. Other releases will follow on a monthly basis.

808 STATE are of course original techno legends from the old school (Aphex is reissuing their Newbuild gem in January on Rephlex) who should require little introduction. They recently hit the charts with that bloke from the Manic Street Preachers who shouts all his words. That track was wickedly good as was their last LP Don Solaris. Repeat after me "808 are fucking great!"

808 STATE are getting crankier and more idiosyncratic with time and the track they've done for us is a real one-off oddity- A fantastically curious big band drum'n'bass from the dark end of the street. Indeed. That last bit wasn't a Gram Parsons reference either.

JEGA is a legend of the new school. He lives in the part of Manchester the city planners called Chorlton in a slum dwelling above Graham Massey and his 808 orchestra. His album 'Spectrum' came out on Planet U (Paradinas label) and is both subtle and mental. 'Move UR body' is mental but not in a way you might expect as dear Dylan (the ladies love) turns in a dubby acid fuck-a-thon to wreck speakers.

These singles are numbered ltd editions of 1000 in super stylish sleeves designed by Graham Peace.

Next month you'll get Anthony Child (he's Surgeon in another guise) and Stock, Hausen & Walkman. This is potentially our commercial suicide release. If we get past this we should be OK.

You will receive this single in due course. If you have a white label and like it phone for the deluxe
finished edition. It'll be worth more...

If you like this record a review/ spin/ phone call/ mention/ feature would be the perfect gesture...

For information call Richard Hector-Jones."

Remarks:

Slut Smalls is a record label set up by the makers of Jockey Slut magazine. Each 7" single in the series was apparently limited to 1000 copies although, as the scan above shows, this wasn't the case, as it's number 1183! :-)
